VALLEY EDUCATION COLLABORATIVE COORDINATOR
Summary:
The Alliance for Better Community is seeking an individual to convene the Valley Education Collaborative—a collation of San Fernando Valley stakeholders working with area schools to support students and improve schools. The goal is to ensure that all students are prepared to pursue college, career training, and gainful employment in the 21st century workforce. ABC’s high school education efforts stem from the Latino Scorecard a study that seeks to create positive change in the areas of student achievement, high school retention, and successful completion of the minimum coursework required to qualify for a California four-year university (A-G).
The Alliance for a Better Community is a nonprofit organization operating within an ever changing dynamic that promotes equity for Latinos in education, health, economic development and civic participation throughout the Los Angeles region.
Major responsibilities:
- Monitor and analyze existing public education policies and practices that impact education in the northeast San Fernando Valley;
- Communicate education related information to partners, community and stakeholders;
- Engage members in developing and implementing a local strategy that serves as a roadmap for creating positive change in the areas of student achievement, high school retention and student completion of the A-G coursework;
- Continue to expand the education collaborative and its attainment of goals, objectives, and strategies among local districts, community based organizations, schools, parents, youth, partners, elected officials, and other stakeholders;
- Galvanize core organizations to be active within the collaborative;
- Coordinate with other partner collaboratives to leverage efforts, as well as celebrate and promote accomplishments;
- Maintain on-going log of tasks and accomplishments for reporting and evaluation purposes;
- Complete timely updates to funding organizations;
- Supervise or coordinate with ABC education interns, student researchers, or fellows.
Qualifications:
- Effectiveness in working with broad-based, multicultural coalitions.
- Minimum of an undergraduate degree. Masters degree in public policy, education or related field preferred.
- Experience in project design and management.
- Strong communication skills (listening, comprehension, verbal and written expression).
- Strong computer skills (MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
- Able to work independently as well as in a team environment.
- Preference for bilingual (English and Spanish) candidates.
- Must have own transportation.
