What We Do

ABC advocates for policy changes that will create improved outcomes for Latinos throughout the region. ABC works to identify policy solutions that ensure high quality programs and services, fiscal responsibility and equitable access to programs and services.

K-12 and Higher Education

ABC is firm in its belief that education is the cornerstone and the foundation for a better future for all Angelenos. We aim to ensure all students have access to quality schools from PreK-12th grade to prepare them for college and careers, and thus for full participation in the civic, economic and cultural life of our community. This has been a central component of our mission since our inception over 15 years ago, and underscores every aspect of our daily work.

Civic Engagement

ABC believes that civic engagement is essential to a healthy democracy, to public accountability and to social progress. ABC recognizes the need to create a strong infrastructure within the region to engage, inform and organize key regional stakeholders such as students, parents, community members, civic leaders and elected officials. Empowering individuals to advocate for themselves and their communities is a powerful way to create grassroots change as well as to work towards changing policy for a more equitable Los Angeles.

Economic Prosperity

From March through May 2021, ABC was able to continue this direct service to 100 new and previously awarded families to participate in a three-month $1,000 cash assistance service. ABC identified that the cash assistance programs created an impact far from just financial need. This program not only provided financial relief but it helped to close the digital divide by using these funds to cover the cost of internet service and having internet access for the first time in many households.

ABC also offered Know Your Rights workshops for hundreds of families and called on Congress to include immigrants in COVID-19 care.

Health

ABC believes that everyone should have equitable access to the resources that support comprehensive health and wellness. We believe that health should not be determined by what zip code you live in and that the future success of Los Angeles depends on the level of collective health and wellness of its communities. However, too many Angelinos, a large portion of whom are Latino, don’t have health insurance, access to wellness programs and/or dental health services that are vital to their well-being and success. ABC works to promote policies and research that supports and expands access to these kinds of services in Latino communities throughout the region.
